Maui Hand Therapy is a specialized skilled hand therapy/occupational therapy practice that provides rehabilitation for the Upper Extremity. We most often treat patients with injuries or recent corrective surgeries to the hand, wrist, elbow or shoulder. A unique aspect of our therapy practice is the ability to fabricate custom thermoplastic splints and braces for patients with bone fractures, arthritis, tendinitis, nerve compression such as carpal tunnel syndrome and unique post-operative conditions, as requested by the surgeon.

Maui Hand Therapy provides upper extremity rehabilitation for all conditions of the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. We fabricate custom braces and splints and pride ourselves on excellent quality and service. Maui Hand Therapy employs a full-time Certified Hand Therapists. Meeting the criteria to become a CHT is no simple task- one must practice a minimum of three years in the field of OT or PT, complete 4,000 hours of focused treatment of the upper extremity, and pass a difficult board examination to achieve certification.

A key aspect of skilled hand therapy provided by a CHT is frequent and ongoing communication with the orthopedic or hand surgeon to help achieve the best post-operative result. We understand that surgery can cause fear and apprehension, leaving you feeling uncomfortable and unsure of what steps to take next. Our licensed professionals will guide, encourage and support you throughout your recovery process. We strive to answer any questions that you may have, put your fears at ease and give you clear direction so that you make ongoing progress. Our ultimate goal is to help you return to your highest possible level of function.

Our therapists take a team approach with our patients to develop treatment programs and help them return to an active lifestyle. We initially focus on decreasing your pain and swelling. Then we aim to improve your mobility, strength, coordination and flexibility. Working with a Certified Hand Therapist when you have chronic pain or arthritis in your upper extremity can make treatment much more effective and help you achieve your long-term goals. We offer a combination of education, manual therapy, targeted exercise, adaptive equipment and activity modification to help improve flexibility, reduce pain, and improve functional use of the hand and upper extremity. When necessary, we can provide you with custom splinting options.
